SAN FRANCISCO A "safe house" for young girls struggling to leave prostitution and street life has opened in San Francisco.
The house will offer shelter for six girls as well as education and counseling.

According to the Coalition to End the Exploitation of Kids, San Francisco is home to three-thousand child prostitutes, some as young as nine-years-old.

Mayor Gavin Newsom yesterday pledged to provide an eight-passenger van to the program to take the girls to school and to double the number of beds available to 12 within a year.
